Paul Keetch, MP for Hereford, has contacted the Managing Director of Special Metals Wiggin Limited, following the company's announcement that 80 jobs are under threat.

The MP has asked David Waring, the MD, to enlist his support and is keen to ensure his constituents are afforded as much help as possible to find alternative employment if the potential losses go ahead.

Commenting Mr Keetch said, "Clearly as an MP I have no influence over any commercial decisions but often I can help in terms of advice and assistance through the various government departments, such as the DWP or DBERR.

"Wiggins - as we all know the company - is where my father worked for some 25 years. It's a major employer and the problems being faced are yet another blow to our local economy at this very difficult time. If I can help the company and my constituents I am keen to do so."
